Florence Regional Arts Alliance, with thanks to a sponsorship by Oregon Pacific Bank, is so excited to offer this opportunity for our youth to learn from a plein air painter how to paint plein air.
Plein air is the art of drawing or painting outside in the “plain air.” It is an incredible tool for artists as it helps them train their eyes to paint something from life.
Working with Lane Arts Council and their Artist in Residence program, FRAA will host on Saturday, September 7th, 10 am – 2 pm, a one day workshop to teach Middle School and High School age students how to paint en plein air.
This workshop is being held in conjunction with our Coastal Plein Air Art & Wine Festival where we see artists from all of the state and neighboring states come to the coast and create several plein air paintings. FRAA wants to have youth art represented at this event as well.
Our instructor is Will Paradis and he will take the youth outside Siuslaw High School. All art supplies will be provided. They will sit on tarps with their canvas in their laps and paint a scene with Will’s assistance. We then ask that we keep the artwork for several weeks so it can be on display at our event at the Florence Events Center, September 21st and 22nd. FRAA will recognize the youth on Saturday, September 21st at Noon and give each participating youth present a recognition and goodie bag.
